Biotechnology for Development in Africa (BDA) Foundation — Environmental Strategy / Forest Carbon Project Development

Devel­op­ment of the for­est car­bon pro­gram and envi­ron­men­tal man­age­ment strat­e­gy for the BDA Foun­da­tion in the Demo­c­ra­t­ic Repub­lic of the Con­go.

The DE team has worked with the BDA Foun­da­tion since 2009 on pro­vid­ing sci­en­tif­ic and strate­gic exper­tise to help devel­op their for­est car­bon projects and to align their efforts with inter­na­tion­al cli­mate change pol­i­cy. This has entailed pro­vid­ing edu­ca­tion relat­ed to car­bon mar­kets and process­es for devel­op­ing car­bon projects. DE’s expe­ri­ence in ecosys­tem sci­ence and envi­ron­men­tal pol­i­cy has helped guide the BDA project in such a way that it is eli­gi­ble for fund­ing and part­ner­ships relat­ed to cli­mate change with orga­ni­za­tions such as the Unit­ed Nations.

DE is work­ing with the BDA Foun­da­tion two devel­op afforesta­tion and refor­esta­tion (AR) as well as avoid­ed defor­esta­tion (REDD+) car­bon off­set projects. DE pro­vides over­all project man­age­ment from con­cep­tion through to mon­i­tor­ing and issu­ing of car­bon cred­its.
